Autumn 1 -All About Me

This topic is perfect for nursery children just starting school. It focuses on themselves as individuals, what they like and don’t like and how to express themselves and how to take care of their bodies. Its also covers emotions and friendships, learning how to play alongside each other in an new environment and feel safe to share their own thoughts and ideas.

Spring 1 - Dinosaurs

This topic is all about the amazing dinosaurs! Children will learn dinosaur names and gaining an understanding of how many years ago they existed. There huge opportunities for learning new facts and vocabulary with this topic too.

Spring 2 - First Tales

This topic explores some of our favourite stories including Goldilocks, The three Billy Goats Gruff, Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel.  We will explore the vocablary and repetition of stories and there will be lots of opportunities to make up our own wonderful tales.

Autumn 2 - Nursery Rhymes and First tales

Nursery rhymes provide bite-sized learning opportunities for young children to develop key developmental skills and can often be the trigger for hours of creative and open-ended play. They are a powerful learning source in early literacy and enable children to become interested in the rhythm and patterns of language as well as building memory capabilities and boosting vocabulary.

Summer 1 - Farm

Learn all about life on the farm including exploring how things work on the farm, which type of animals live there, and what jobs there is to do, all around the clock. learning about the interesting sounds animals make, what their babies are called, and what their life is like at the farm. The other part of the farm topic that can be explored is food, where it comes from and how it grows!

Summer 2 -Pirates and Under the Sea

Come aboard an exciting and engaging Pirate topic!

With so many recognisable pieces of iconography associated with pirates: ships, skull and crossbones flags and buried treasure, it makes for a great theme to explore with EYFS children. By learning to associate images with words and themes, children can further experiment with more complex vocabulary and skills with image recognition.

This topic explores life in the water, meet all the creatures under the sea, such as octopus, sharks, starfishes. It is another great opportunity to extend children’s vocabulary as well as imagination by exposing them to photos and videos of somewhere they have not been.
