Welcome to year 3. The year team consists of Mrs Lamb-Crawley, Miss Moran and Miss Tappenden. Our TAs are Mrs Gobbi, Mrs Urquhart and Mrs Laferla. We are thrilled that we get to spend the next year making wonderful, fun and exciting memories with you!

Homework will go home on Fridays and is to be completed and back at school the following Wednesday.

Reading Records need to be written in by children and/or adults at least 3 times a week. However, reading should be ideally happening every day.

English

In English, we will be finishing the story of Sam Wu and reading the story ‘Operation Gadgetman’. Learning how to write from the third perspective narrative using third person pronouns, metaphors, expanded noun phrases and verbs. Using formal tone and organisational skills to write non-chronological reports. Practising and developing a range of our spelling skills.

Maths

In maths we will be applying our knowledge of perimeter. Understanding what a fraction is and how to count in fractions. Consolidating our understanding measurement. Effectively use different measurements of mass and capacity. Understanding how to calculate halves and quarters.

History & Geography

Over the next half term, Year 3 will be starting our new topic called ‘Island Life’. We will be learning more about Charles Darwin. Exploring how to interepret different maps. Learning about the ways we can gather geographical information to answer questions. Understanding the similarities and differences between geographical features. Exploring the impact of human activity on geographical features
