Welcome to Reception!
We have three Reception classes:
RF – Miss Fletcher & Mrs Cheeseman
RC – Miss Carver & Mrs Selman
RW – Miss Williams & Miss Potts
During Reception, we follow the Foundation Stage curriculum, working towards the Early Learning Goals. A carefully balanced timetable ensures that key skills are introduced whilst the environment is designed to foster independent learning. Children are free to explore new ideas and develop skills according to their own interests and motivations.
To support your child at home, we recommend reading at least twice a week. You can also go over Phase 2 and Phase 3 phonics sounds your child has been learning in Phonics, the Phonics homework sheets can be found in your child’s homework books. Helping support your child with a piece of homework each week, in their homework book helps making links between learning at school and home.
To celebrate our topic Fairytales, we will be having an immersive storytelling workshop at the end of the term. A letter will go out shortly to provide further information.
In Spring half Term EYFS, will be covering an exciting array of learning in English, Maths and Topic. This half term our Topic is Fairytales, the children will be immersed into Fairytales through a live fairytale workshop where they have the opportunity to see the different characters and retell acting out what they remember.
This half term our topic is Fairytales, which is a fun and exciting topic for the children to engage in their learning. We will be exploring a range of books and will be innovating our own stories!
In English we will being reading a variety of exciting stories with the children including; The Gingerbread man, The Three Little Pigs and The Little Red Hen and we will be looking at some non-fiction texts.
In Maths we will be learning about ordering numbers to 10 and 20, counting back from 10, comparing 9 and 10, 3d shape and pattern, composition of 6, 7 and 8, combining groups and counting on.

Continous Provision/ Free-flow
In Reception, our learning revolves around play and children will be given the opportunity to explore and investigate learning with independence. As part of our continuous provision, during the day the children have the opportunity to independently choose which areas they would like to learn in, either the classrooms or our outdoor learning environment. Continuous provision enables the children to explore recent learning, practice new skills and follow their own interests in a variety of different hands-on and practical ways.Throughout the day there are also some whole class teaching sessions and focus groups.
Donations
The children use lots of different materials for arts and crafts. We would welcome donations of items such as pasta, lentils, sequins, buttons and junk modelling (cleaned recycling items e.g. cardboard boxes, plastic bottles etc.) The children are enjoying our water area outside! If you have any old wellington boots you would like to donate to the school, please let your child's class teacher know.
